THE NAME
Balto is a reference to the standard Russian style of chetki commonly know as "boltushki" which roughly translates to something that dangles or rattles.
THE DESIGN
Born of a desire to introduce additional options for Russian style chetki play for the Begleri and EDC community the BALTO went through 90+ design iterations before it was ready. The last few revisions had notes along the lines of "please stop making changes". Luckily we listened.
The core design goal was to respect standard chetki sizing and tension while allowing them to be worn comfortably.
This proved quite challenging as the slack length for correct tension was different for play vs wear. Friction based bead methods would move after some play, and would require precise placement for repeated tension.
Our solution is a patent pending bead system which allows multiple fixed tension settings. Once you find your preference you can easily switch between flipping mode and bracelet mode.
THE MATERIAL
Created from a composite material via modern 3D printing methods the BALTO beauty is in the balanced randomness of layer lines and colour variations.
The exact blends are selected after touching numerous material print samples in varying stages of post processing.
The final selection for Powder materials contains carbon fiber blended into a propriety PLA which results in a beautiful molted finish with varied levels of pigmentation.
Jet material contains carbon fiber blended into a propriety PETG base.
"Raw" parts are gently post processed to bring out the natural aesthetics without removing the texture. Printer lines and imperfections will be visible.
"Satin" parts are heavily processed to a semi gloss finish. It could also be described as a beach glass finish. Minor imperfections will be visible under close inspection.
"Smooth" parts are heavily processed to a smooth finish. Minor imperfections will be visible under close inspection.
A note on durability: Powder (PLA) is a very rigid material offering high surface hardness relative to other thermoplastics such as ABS and PETG. This is increased further when combined with carbon fiber. Durability of non filled PLA is a step under Delrin based on the Rockwell R scale.
Jet (PETG) offers a lower rigidity and scratch resistance while increasing UV and temperature resistance.
Long term UV exposure as well as high heat (above 60c, 140f) should be avoided for the "powder" materials.
3DEE metal is UV resistant and will not deform up to 100c under no load conditions.
Alternative "JET" materials with high heat and UV resistance is also available.
TENSION SETTINGS - Patent Pending
The first tension setting is with the snake knot facing outwards. This is perfect for raindrops and wearing the BALTO.
The second setting is with the double snake knot inside the paddle and the paracord running out around the bead.
Addition tension can be achieved by pulling the bead with knots back out, twisting it once, and putting the snake knot back inside the paddle.
We suggest using our insert to set the first tension point and check if your can find a good second point. You can adjust from here. Remember that your first tension is your initial "zero" position, or bracelet mode. Your second tension position can be either: only the bead flipped, or the bead flipped + X turns; this is your play position.

Absolutely love them, they feel so high quality and the weight and balance is awesome. Hard to put down.
I've purchased dozens of Chetkis from various makers but I've never been so pleased as I was when I began playing with the BALTO Chetki from MellowBlock. I got some mellow blocks a few months back but wasn't into Chetki until quite recently and I was lucky enough to snag one of the final pieces from this drop. I AM BLOWN AWAY but not just the quality of this item, but by the incredibly clever design. The ability to change tension on-the-go has completely spoiled me for any other chetki. Bracelet mode, raindrop mode, beads counting mode, high/low slack mode....this one device does IT ALL. On top of this, the finish and color is divine and smooth to the touch while having phenomenal grip for high-momentum play. I've in just a few days of ownership, I've completely taken my Chetki skill to a whole new level, thanks to these awesome paddles for grip. Juat the whole thing. I'm ordering another one immediately!! Thank you so much, MellowBlock! You took my love of a hobby and turned it into a PASSION and I don't think there's any better endorsement of a fidget/skill toy.
TL;DR: Excellent chetki for both beginner and experienced player.
Dan has worked hard to create an authentic Russian-style chetki. His choice of material is durable and the bead finish can only be described as "silky" in the hand. His system for adjusting the string tension is nothing short of ingenious and total weight of the chetki is a nice balance between heft and snappy responsiveness. The ends have enough weight to carry momentum without making them difficult to start swinging.
Included with the chetki are extra center beads for increasing total length, two strings, and an original spacing tool to help set the proper string tension as well as a carrying pouch. Dan has videos online showing how to change the string ad set the tension and he is even starting to add trick tutorials.
The final piece is, of course, customer service. Dan is very personable and responsive to requests. He genuinely cares about his customers and how they perceive his products. Even though this is a business, you can tell it is a passion project for him.
I've purchased chetki from Russian makers and more local sources as well as made my own. The Balto can stand toe-to-toe with the best of them.
Wasn't sure about the material (powder red), but it feels great in the hand, smooth despite the striated appearance. Feels like a good hardness/durability.
Balance is perfect as far as I'm concerned, flips around like a dream.
Not much to gripe about, highly recommended.
This Balto is way better than I expected. The fit and finish are superb and playability is outstanding with the customizable length options thanks to the genius design of the ends. Don’t sleep on this grab one while you can
I received a black balto with the black and red accents today. They met, and exceeded the expectation I had for them: perfection.
The balto came with a spacer that would allow for re-stringing these with ease. The design of the balto allows you to adjust the tension, but what’s great is that the tension will remain the same after extended play.
This is the first chetki I’ve ever seen that *really* feels and looks like some of the best sets I’ve seen from overseas.
Customer service was also top notch. Dan kept in touch with me throughout the wait, sending a quick update on how things were going with my order.
Did it arrive a little later than expected? Yes. Was it worth the waiit to receive a product that met his ecpectations, and surpassed my own? Absolutely.
If you are looking for that Russian mafia aesthetic with which to intimidate your enemies, I can highly recommend flipping these bad boys while wearing a sharp suit and shades and leaning on a motorbike.
The Balto is seriously flippable! It’s nice and light, but the thicker paddles and end beads give it good momentum too. The adjustable tension system for play vs wear is such a cool innovation, and I appreciate the seamless look and feel while slinging. Plus the powder purple is an awesome color and a really neat material! Highly recommend checking out the Balto—you won’t be disappointed!
This was my first purchase from Mellow Block, but I have several sets of chetki made from other materials and from different manufacturers.
Any doubts that I had for ordering chetki from a newer company vanished the moment I laid eyes on the Smooth Powder Glow + Smooth Jet Zonaite, They feel fantastic. The mechanism to make the cord looser or more taut is simple and sturdy. The thickness of the beads feels wonderfully substantial without being bulky or heavy. I've purchased more expensive and less expensive chetki, and these, uniquely, don't leave me wondering if I overpaid or purchased something that's over-engineered for how I'll wind up using them. The regret I felt at missing out on the first released was reconciled with the glow in the dark beads. The zonaite was listed as "imperfect" in the item description, and, while I'm glad the blemish was disclosed, I had to go looking for it.
10/10 product, seller is responsive through social media channels. I'll look forward to the next drop!
I knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it!
Let me just say it is worth it! The BALTO is even more impressive in person! The texture, color and feel of it, is perfection! It is really well designed and I love how you can change the tension and wear it. I wasn’t sure if it would stay on but it definitely holds. The feel of it in my hands and sound when doing the ☔️ is super calming.
I highly recommend you grab one while you can!!
Great
Second set and haven’t missed the mark at all.
Feels amazing to hold, flip and count beads. I love the weight but it is not too bulky. It feels more beginner friendly than others I have tried. Great value for the price. Being able to wear it is a bonus.
Excellent customer service too, some of the best I've had from Dan - legend!
Great
Great
The depth of the colors doesn’t show up well in a photo but this was a beautiful addition to my collection! If you’re looking for a Chetki the BALTO is the best one around.
Love Baltos. Very Klicky Clacky.
Customized my set with these
I had only tried chetkis from Aroundsquare, but heard so much good about the Balto that I had to try. I've now had it for 3+ weeks and im 10/10 satisfied.
I never really managed to do rolls with other chetkis, but this one had the grip, shape and weight enabling me to finally nail those tricks I've been trying for for a few months. Then it was easier to translate those skills back to both chetkis and begleri. The balto was basically a catalyst for my slinging skills. I progressed a lot quicker than expected and it's all due to this excellent design. Bead shape & end pieces are both perfect.
I don't wear my chetki but really appreciate the genius tension system so I can change slack to change the slinging properties.
I bought the Red Abyss option and it's so much prettier in real life than in the picture. Awesome iridescence. The balto will be my go-to recommendation for anyone wanting a new chetki.
Pretty in person. Pic doesn’t really show the details
Definitely punches above its weight class with the quality. Also love the beads at the end to add momentum and the on-the-fly feature to lengthen or shorten slack.
Loved the first one so much, had to get another!!
Incredible look, feel and a great price! Eeep thanks dude!
These accents are a great way to tweak the look and feel of your Balto! I’m excited to experiment with a longer form, and to use the brass accents I got to adjust the weight. Not to mention they look really cool!
What a set of Chetki. I have been slinging for over a year and Chetki have been a personal favorite of mine since I got started. It is clear that the work has been put into this product from the tension system to the precision of the beads and count, all aspects have been thought about. If you are new or a veteran to Chetki give this brand a shot. You wont be disappointed
